The first reading strategy that we focused on was SEQUENCE OF EVENTS. We practiced using the format of
first, then, next, last. We shared the book
The Lost and Found in our reading text book and worked to put the main ideas in sequential order. We also shared the books:
Superdog! Heart of a Hero, The Secret Shortcut, and
Salt in His Shoes. I modeled (with student input) the sequence of events in the first poster for
Superdog, and students listed ideas on post-it notes for the story
The Secret Shortcut. In addition to working as a whole group with these shared books, we also worked in small guided reading groups to support their learning. Our next journey.... making inferences!
